Adult Dependent Relative
Are you responsible for the long-term care of an adult dependent?
This visa applies to any adult that is in need of long-term care from a parent, grandchild, brother, sister, son or daughter who is a permanent resident in the UK. The relative who intends to care for the individual needs to qualify within on of the following categories:
- Be a British or Irish citizen,
- Be settled in the UK: have indefinite leave to remain, settled status or permanent resident,
- Be from the EU, Switzerland, Norway, Iceland or Liechtenstein and have pre-settled status (they must have been living in the UK prior to 1 January 2021),
- Have protection status in the UK.

You will only need to extend the visa for your adult dependent if the caring relative needs to extend their own.
How long does it take to get a decision on the Adult Dependent Relative visa?
If you are applying from outside the UK, you will receive a decision within 24 weeks. If from inside, within 8 weeks.
