Alex Harper
Senior Solicitor, Employment
Alex is a senior solicitor in the employment team with experience of acting in contentious and non-contentious matters for clients from a wide range of sectors including financial services, construction, leisure and hospitality, healthcare, charities and others. Alex’s specialist focus is on employment issues relating to discrimination and equal pay, having been previously involved in an international gender pay gap reporting project, a grievance investigation with a particular focus on equal pay and multiple employment tribunal claims for discrimination and equal pay.
Alex advises on a wide-range of employment law issues, specialising in particular on complex Employment Tribunal litigation with a focus on employment status, whistleblowing and discrimination. Alex also works with clients on all aspects of employment law including redundancies, HR policies, settlement negotiations and agreements, corporate transactions and ER investigations.
Alex joined Herrington Carmichael in 2021 following qualifying as an employment solicitor in 2019. Alex previously worked as a commercial paralegal, trainee solicitor and newly qualified solicitor in London in international and national firms. Alex studied French and German at Kings College London prior to completing a Graduate Diploma in Law and the Legal Practice course at the University of Law.
In her free time, Alex enjoys reading, travel (hopefully to resume soon), baking and playing golf.
Experience
- Alex was part of the team which defended a disability discrimination employment tribunal claim with a value in excess of £100,000, which was successfully mitigated to £0 through the strategic use of cost awards.
- Alex advised on the merger of two prominent healthcare trusts with an anticipated value of £1 billion, providing the due diligence report on the transfer of all affected employees.
- Alex was part of the team which published an International Gender Pay Gap report, collating advice from over 20 jurisdictions and participating in seminars with key clients to discuss its findings and potential input into government consultation.
