Sonia Dhesi

Senior Solicitor, Private Client

Areas of responsibility

Sonia joined Herrington Carmichael as a Senior Solicitor in the Private Client department, specialising in Wills, Powers of Attorney, Estate Administration, Trusts and Inheritance Tax. Sonia regularly advises clients on Wills and how best to achieve their intentions via the drafting of their Wills. She advises clients on the administration of estates, including foreign assets and business property. Sonia also advises clients on Inheritance Tax and provides her clients with options on how to potentially mitigate their Inheritance Tax liability.

Experience/recent projects

Sonia has 10 years post qualification experience. Sonia has previously  helped beneficiaries of an estate where they have had a desire to re-distribute their inheritance by, for example, skipping one generation of the family and passing on wealth to the next in a tax efficient way. She has also assisted clients in relation to Court of Protection deputyship applications and has successfully obtained a deputyship order in respect of personal welfare, which can often be difficult to obtain.

Interests and Hobbies

In her spare time, when Sonia is not entertaining her two children, she enjoys swimming and visiting the gym regularly.  She also likes travelling, and her most memorable holiday destination is the Ice Hotel in Sweden, where she was lucky enough to see the Northern Lights and Memphis Tennessee. Sonia also enjoys socialising with friends and visiting the theatre.
