Trainee Solicitor Contracts
Herrington & Carmichael is looking for trainee solicitors who can build-on the firm's current success and take direct responsibility for the firm's future growth and development .
We have always believed that recruiting talented trainee solicitors is key to our success. We invest a lot of time and energy in finding the right people and then offering them a degree of training that not only equips them for professional life but is both varied and interesting in its content.
At present Herrington & Carmichael is no longer accepting applications for training contracts commencing in 2008 and 2009, but we shall provide details of our future requirements as soon as possible.
Our trainees are highly regarded in the marketplace. The firm believes that key to any solicitor's development is experience of dealing with clients. Under the supervision of a partner or senior fee earner trainees will from day one be given work involving client contact.
The two-year training contracts are tailored to produce a well rounded and skilled lawyer. The following contracts cover the following areas:
Company
There is a broad range of company and commercial work including acquisition and disposal, management buy-outs, directors' agreements and intellectual property rights. There will also be the opportunity to experience seats in dispute resolution and conveyancing.
Private Client
The trainee will gain experience of residential conveyancing and matrimonial work and have significant exposure to Wills inheritance tax and services for the elderly
Commercial Property & Property Development
This contract will cover various aspects of planning and development as well as elements of dispute resolution and residential conveyancing.
Litigation
This is a very varied training contract with seats in residential conveyancing, dispute resolution matrimonial and employment.

Mentoring - help on hand
We appreciate that for many of our trainees the training contract will be their first experience of a working environment and that they may feel somewhat overwhelmed in dealing with clients, support staff, fee earners and the partners! In addition to the Training Partner being responsible for trainees generally all our trainees are assigned a mentor to provide additional support and encouragement throughout their training contract.
Work Experience
We feel that past trainees have benefited from work experience with Herrington & Carmichael prior to commencement of their training contract. If you are interested in work experience and would like to see first hand what life is like in a busy law firm then
contact Emma Hanney.
