Joy Hankins

Joy Hankins is an Consultant in the Employment department. She qualified in 2000 and joined Herrington & Carmichael in 2010.

Joy has ten years' experience as an employment lawyer, advising both employers and employees on all aspects of employment law. Joy is also a leading expert in business immigration law.

Dual qualified as both a barrister and solicitor Joy has conducted a broad range of advocacy work, including a constructive unfair dismissal claim; a whistleblowing claim against a train operator; and defence of unfair dismissal and sex discrimination claims.

Recent immigration work has covered several applications for Permanent Residence, Licenses and Certificates under Tiers 2 and 4 and specialist Tier 1 visas, as well as a major Judicial Review challenge within the education sector against the UK Border Authority's decision to suspend a college's Sponsor Licence.

Joy has previously worked for the European Commission managing European business development funds which gave her expertise in cross-national employment issues and work-related immigration.

Joy is regularly asked to speak on employment and executive immigration issues. She has provided training on Advanced level courses for the Employment Lawyers Association on immigration law and is in demand as a speaker for CIPD and local training events for HR Managers and Finance Directors. She is a member of the Employment Law Association and the Immigration Law Practitioners Association.

Joy is rated as 'very good' by 'The Good Lawyer Guide', an independent guide to solicitors in England and Wales.
